What to Expect: For the 2019-20 school year we have created a series of three professional development workshops serving all districts in their pursuit of safe and healthy student development. Superintendents and district leaders will benefit from this deep dive into social emotional learning. From Equity to School Violence Prevention, SEL is critical to teacher engagement and student success.
Each workshop will build on the last, creating a solid foundation from psychological theory and culminating in practical guidance easily applicable for each district. Attendance at all three sessions is not mandatory but suggested.
Come prepared to leverage your own personal and professional experiences. Group therapy dynamics will be an integral part of this learning experience, helping us better appreciate the challenges educators face in blending psychosocial emotional growth with academic development.
Part One: Monday, November 4, 2019
This session will emphasize the underpinnings of SEL, including a new definition, a theoretical framework, and the internal/external barriers to successful learning.
A new era in education is emerging, shifting our emphasis toward whole child education. Cutting edge schools will learn how to create a new paradigm bringing excitement toward learning and teaching.
District leaders who become experts in SEL will be at a distinct advantage, improving academic outcomes, reducing the potential for violence, and creating happier faculty.
Come join this interesting first workshop to learn what most experts don’t know- the real driving force behind SEL. Understanding what motivates people will put you at a distinct advantage over other district leaders and will revitalize your energy for work.
