  • Four Great Reasons to Attend the

    SLC

    Dear Colleagues:

Our Spring Leadership Conference, a three-day educational and professional development opportunity, focuses on discussing and enriching the many roles of the school leader. It is the biggest gathering of our professional contemporaries, yet, one of the best occasions for one-on-one conversations, inspirations and take-away tips.

This year, our three keynote speakers will kick off a dazzling array of 45+ well-planned and practiced workshops sessions that will ensure there is something for everyone.

Here are my top four reasons why you should join us at the Spring Leadership Conference this year!

One – Hear the National Perspective from Inspiring Keynote Speakers

Wednesday, May 17th — "bELieve" with Eric LeGrand

In the fall of 2012, Eric Le Grand released his first book, titled, BELIEVE: My Faith And The Tackle That Changed my Life. Donations from Team LeGrand of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation go towards research to find a cure for paralysis and help to improve the quality of life for people with spinal cord injuries.

Thursday, May 18th — Every Family Engaged, Every Student Learns with Dr. Steve Constantino

Dr. Steven M. Constantino serves as the Chief Academic Officer/Assistant Superintendent for Instruction for the Virginia Department of Education. He is also an adjunct lecturer at the School of Education, College of William and Mary where he teaches a doctoral level class in executive organizational leadership.  He will share with you his perspectives on leadership.

Friday, May 19th — Future Ready Today – Where Best Practices Meet Next Practices with Raymond J. McNulty

Raymond J. McNulty is the Dean for the School of Education at Southern New Hampshire University which Fast Company magazine named the 12th most innovative organization in the world in its World's 50 Most Innovative Companies, and is a Senior Fellow to the International Center for Leadership in Education, having previously served as President.

Two – Learn from Insightful Programs

Examples of sessions to be presented at the Spring Leadership Conference include:

    • Increasing Student Achievement through Short-Cycle Assessment
    • Powerful Leadership in Action: What Do the New Educational Leadership Standards Mean For You, Your School and Your District?
    • Negotiations – Between Chapter 78 and Breakage, Why Can’t You Pay 10%
    • Ten Hot Topics in Special Education Compliance – The Legal and Practitioner Perspectives
    • The Connected Action Roadmap: Ensuring High Quality Instruction in Every Classroom
    • Student Homelessness & Residency Issues
    • Social Media Policies and Practices

Three – Position Your District for Success with Great Networking!

Get new ideas and tools for this year and beyond from the innovators and problem-solvers in New Jersey’s schools that have successfully tackled the issues that you are encountering. You will also have the opportunity to hone your leadership skills to plan, finance and communicate your new ideas to your community, educators, parents and school board constituents who need to approve them and engage in them for success.

Four – Visit the Exhibit Hall!

Be sure to visit the Exhibit Hall where over 70+ NJASA Allied Members will fill the halls with the latest tools, resources, and technologies for school security, curriculum, and teaching aides to touch, explore and road test.

In closing, I suggest to get the most out of your Spring Leadership Conference time - think about what keeps you up at night, what successes you can share with others and come hungry to learn and be eager to talk to everyone and listen to those who have traveled from near and far to share their experiences with you.

Look forward to seeing you at the Conference.

    Sincerely,

    Scott P. McCartney, Ed.D.
