A High-Quality Education for All Students
New Jersey is a member of the Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission (MIC3) – that includes the 50 states, District of Columbia, and the Department of Defense Education Activity schools – which addresses the key educational transition issues encountered by military students as they move throughout the world. I currently serve as New Jersey’s Compact Commissioner and oversee the military compact administration in our state and ensure compliance under the rules and regulations.
The average military family moves three times more often than their civilian counterpart. Military students are often met with challenges when transitioning into a new school district. The issues range from enrolling in kindergarten to meeting graduation requirements. As we move forward, and past the pandemic, and focus on the social and emotional well-being of our students, military students encounter another dimension of trauma with each move.
New Jersey is known for its outstanding support for special needs children. Not all states deliver the gold standard of service provided by New Jersey educators. As commissioner, I not only oversee transition for our military students coming into New Jersey but also when they move from New Jersey to another base in the world. Working with my counterpart in the receiving state is also part of this process in ensuring a smooth transition for our military students.
Military families help sustain our fighting force, on whom we depend on for the security and safety of our nation. As educators, we are committed to children and providing a high-quality education for all students in our public schools.

Thank you for your continued support of our military students and their families.
