TRENTON, N.J.—January 22, 2013— Schools without computers, iPads and Internet access are the exception rather than the rule these days, but most classrooms continue to be print-based, according to the NJASA. Taking that next step, to fully transition to a digital and blended learning environment, is the focus of this year’s TECHSPO, a statewide technology conference by educators for educators.

“Schools are at a pivotal turning point with technology,” said Richard Bozza, Ed.D., executive director, NJASA. “We are moving beyond ‘classrooms with computers’ to environments where technology is an integral part of creative thinking and problem-solving. With technology, students can learn at their own pace, guided by teachers who no longer become the sole content providers. In this way, students become much more engaged in the learning process.” 

A Conference By Educators for Educators

TECHSPO will showcase digital technologies, as well as introduce ways to use them in meaningful instruction. The conference will feature keynote addresses by two visionaries in the educational technology field: 

• A Visual Approach to Math: Co-founder and Chief Technical Officer and Senior Scientist at the MIND Research Institute, Dr. Matthew Peterson once struggled with traditional language-based instruction due to dyslexia. As a result, he created a Spatial Temporal Math software program that teaches sophisticated math concepts visually rather than verbally.
 
• The Digital Generation Comes of Age: For the last 20 years, computers and technology have been part of the everyday curriculum for a generation or two of digitally privileged kids – and, as they become the majority, it's show time. As computer-literate children become America's new leaders, visionaries, and designers, how will their digital upbringing affect society and culture? New York Times technology columnist David Pogue takes a thoughtful, funny look at how the tidal wave will hit as the digital generation enters prime time – what we'll gain, what we'll lose, and what beliefs and approaches will shift into something we've never seen before.
